How to compare engines
Identify fuel and generation
Diesel and natural-gas engines need different supporting systems and cost models. A shared number in the name does not make them interchangeable. Published industrial or overseas ratings may not apply to a Canadian road truck.
Read the complete powertrain
Compare the engine rating with the installed gearbox, axles and vehicle approval. Ask what operating conditions support a fuel claim. We do not publish a universal consumption or service-life estimate for an engine family.
Use records, not reputation alone
Review engine and aftertreatment service history, hours and any rebuild documentation. An allowance in your cost model is an assumption, not a prediction that a particular engine will need that amount of work.
