Mack engines
Mack’s engine directory distinguishes MP7, MP8 and newer MP13 offerings. Similar displacement or a shared brand does not make their specifications interchangeable. Identify the actual engine and generation before comparing torque, service requirements or compatibility with a transmission. These pages explain the family differences and the records to request; they do not replace a serial-number-specific service document or an assessment of a used engine.

MP7
11-litre diesel familyMack lists MP7 as an 11 L diesel engine with published ratings from 325 to 425 hp. It is a different family from the 13 L MP8. The range is a catalogue description, and the installed rating must be confirmed on the truck’s own records.
MP8
13-litre diesel familyMP8 is Mack’s 13 L diesel engine family. Mack’s catalogue distinguishes it from MP7 and the newer MP13 offerings. Its engine name spans configurations, so a general MP8 reference is not enough to establish a particular truck’s torque rating or equipment.
Bring the exact specification.
The family name helps organize your search. The build sheet, serial number and relevant manufacturer documentation identify what is installed. Compare like-for-like applications and request evidence for cost or performance claims.
