What is the Mack MP7?
Mack lists MP7 as an 11 L diesel engine with published ratings from 325 to 425 hp. It is a different family from the 13 L MP8. The range is a catalogue description, and the installed rating must be confirmed on the truck’s own records.
What matters in a comparison
For an MP7 truck, compare the completed vehicle’s payload needs and duty cycle with its actual approved specification. Refuse or body-equipped work deserves an engine-hours discussion as well as a distance comparison. Do not turn manufacturer power-to-weight claims into a guaranteed payload or fuel saving. Ask for the engine’s service history and the documentation for its specific transmission pairing.
Fluids & filters
North American MP7 engines covered by the December 2023 body-builder oil/filter manual; identify emissions year and factory coolant label.

Identify the unit first
Use these details to match the manufacturer's application record before choosing a fluid or ordering a filter.
- Truck VIN
- Engine model and serial number
- Engine emissions/model year
- Installed filter-housing model and original part number
- Factory coolant label and subsequent coolant-change records
- VGT versus turbocompound configuration
Fluid specifications
Engine oil — 2010–2020
2017–2020: EOS-4.5 / API CK-4. For 2010–2016, EOS-4.5 / CK-4 is recommended; EOS-4.0 / CJ-4 is the listed minimum.
Use the model-year table and approved viscosity chart. These earlier engines are not assigned the later EOS-5.0 requirement.

Recommended EOS-5.0 / API FA-4; listed minimum EOS-4.5 / API CK-4.

Source 1 ↗Engine coolant — VCS2 factory fill
Genuine VCS2, a phosphate organic acid technology (POAT) coolant.
The manufacturer records a factory change effective 24 August 2023. Use the expansion-tank decal to identify VCS2; do not select by coolant colour alone. Changing from VCS requires the specified complete purge/rinse procedure.
Source 1 ↗Engine coolant — earlier conventional/ELC fill
Heavy-duty ethylene-glycol coolant meeting ASTM D6210 or TMC RP 329, in the formulation specified for the installed system.
Earlier conventional, ELC and extended-service fills have different additive requirements. Match the factory/service label; a shared ASTM standard does not authorize mixing with VCS2.
Source 1 ↗Filter numbers & cross-references
A catalogue cross-reference links part numbers. It does not confirm that either part fits every version of this model. Match the original part to the unit first, then check the replacement manufacturer's application and any supersession.
Engine oil filter — exact-number cross-reference
First identify this exact original part through the OEM lookup for your engine serial number and VIN. Full-flow oil-filter catalogue match; confirm the actual oil-filter housing. The catalogue cross-reference alone does not confirm fitment on every engine in this family.
Application not established by this cross-reference. Confirm this original part number in the manufacturer’s parts catalogue for the exact model and serial number before considering an alternate.

Secondary fuel filter — exact-number cross-reference
First identify this exact original part through the OEM lookup for your engine serial number and VIN. Catalogue match only; the separator and secondary filter are different components. The catalogue cross-reference alone does not confirm fitment on every engine in this family.

What still needs unit-specific confirmation
- Confirm current part supersessions and vehicle-specific fitment through the OEM before ordering. Quantities, capacities and maintenance intervals require the serial-specific manual.

Questions to take to the supplier
- Which output rating is installed?
- What body duty and operating hours are recorded?
- Which service schedule applies to that application?
