Light and medium-duty automatic familiesAllison groups its 1000 and 2000 Series for light- and medium-duty commercial vehicles. Its product directory lists family capability up to 365 hp and 700 lb-ft. Those upper figures do not mean every model or installed transmission has the same rating.
3000 Series
Medium-duty automatic familyAllison describes the 3000 Series as a commercial-vehicle transmission family developed for medium-duty applications. It is a separate family from the lighter 1000/2000 and heavier 4000 offerings. The full model and application suffix determine what a particular unit supports.
4000 Series
Heavy-duty automatic familyAllison positions the 4000 Series for heavy-duty vehicles. Its product catalogue lists a wider upper capability than the 3000 Series, but an individual 4000-series model still has application-specific limits. The family label is not a blanket approval for any engine or gross weight.
